Lakewood/Long Beach Soroptimist Club
A global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have over 25,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. We are one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.

Each year, we proudly support impactful programs that empower women and girls to achieve their dreams, overcome challenges, and create better futures for themselves and their families.
Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls
This program equips young girls with the tools to set and achieve their education and career goals. Through workshops on career opportunities, goal setting, and overcoming setbacks, we help girls break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse, empowering them to live healthier, safer, and more successful lives.
Lakewood Run
For over 30 years, this beloved community event has brought people together for a day of health, fitness, and camaraderie. Proceeds support Soroptimist programs for women and girls, as well as the Lakewood Sheriff running team, making a lasting impact on our community while fostering a spirit of fun and fitness.
Live Your Dream Awards
A unique education award supporting women who are the primary financial providers for their families. These awards provide resources to improve education, skills, and employment opportunities. Over half of recipients are survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, or sexual assault, and nearly all have faced significant life challenges. Funds can be used for tuition, books, childcare, or transportation, making a tangible difference in their journey to a brighter future.
